How much time do you spend on picking your dog food? Do you understand how to read the labels and do you know what each ingredient really is?
While doing research on possible cause for dog seizures I started to investigate dog food ingredients.. The commercial dog food companies have been hiding behind weak FDA rules for to long and now that I know the truth I must spread the word to every pet owner that will listen.
I promise you I’m not going to give you a sale pitch for some high priced fancy dog food. I will explain to you how to learn how to look at the ingredients in your dog food and understand what they really are.
Would it surprise you if I told you that by simply changing how you pick your dog food, could add up to 8.3 years to their lives? How great would it be to have eight more years of tail wagging unconditional love from your loved one?
I searched for a long time before I found reliable non bias information on how to read labels found on dog food. While it is true the FDA regulates dog food labeling, it does not use the same standards it uses for food prepared for people..
The weak dog food labeling regulations are a joke and the industry uses this weakness to hide ingredients that are harmful to our dogs but are added to enhance the tase to make our dogs want to eat it.. The pet food industry is allowed to twist with meaning of words and this makes it nest ti impossible for the pet owner to understand what is really in their pets food..
If a dog food is named Turkey dog food it would have 70% turkey 9of some sort) compared to a food named Turkey flavored that would have 0% turkey in it..
Another way they are allowed to play with words is, if the use the words “with, Dinner or Nuggets” they only need to contain 3% of that ingredient in the food.
The FDA has helped the industry with its weak regulations, deceive the pet owners into thinking they are using quality ingredients, when in reality they use ingredients listed as not fit for human consumption..
Because human food processing produces some much waste, the pet food industry has been able to use this as byproducts to make their products. These ingredients are first marked unfit for human consumption to ensure they don’t find their way back into the human food chain
The FDA’s weak regulations let the commercial dog food companies use words on their labels to describe dog food ingredients that make it sound like their healthy. If your dog food has an ingredient listed as “Dried Egg Products” you might think that is healthy. After all eggs are a good source of protein, but dried egg products are the leftovers from the egg industry that are deemed not fit for human consumption.
You would be surprised the number of healthy sounding ingredients listed on dog food labels that are actually toxic waste.
Because of my finding during my many hours of research I now feed my dog’s homemade dog food, but I know this is not particle for everyone. If you are one that can’t switch to a homemade food, then it becomes even more important to learn how to correctly read a dog food label. To get a detailed understanding of what the listed ingredients in your dog food really are I have included a link below to a website I found while doing my research..
