Several Easy Tips for Walking Your Dog

Daily exercise for your dog is important to his health. One of the easiest ways to provide it is to take him for walks. Of course, canines don’t always stay on track while they’re outside, so you’ll need to take a few steps to make sure the walk is pleasant for both of you. Here are four simple tips for walking your dog that will ensure a positive experience.

#1 - Buy A Good Leash

There are many types of leashes including those made from nylon, leather, and chain. Your dog’s behavior while you’re out for a walk might dictate the type of leash you use. If he pulls to one side or keeps biting the leash, chain might work well. On the other hand, nylon is much lighter and therefore, far more comfortable.

If you plan to use a retractable leash, keep in mind that your pooch can quickly wrap around trees, legs, or other pets. Plus, if you’re on a sidewalk next to a busy street, you’ll need to remain constantly aware of how much line you’ve let out.

#2 - Control Him Around Others

A lot of canines love to meet new people (and pets). A problem occurs when they become overly excited and jump on them. Teach your pooch that if he wants to meet and greet someone, he must first sit at your command. Consider bringing treats when you’re walking him. You can provide positive reinforcement by providing a treat for dog behavior.

#3 - Bring The Necessities

As a responsible owner, you should have plenty of dog waste bags. Leaving your pooch’s waste on another person’s lawn - or worse, in a public place - is disrespectful of others. Also, if you’re going for a longer walk, or if the weather is warm, bring water for your canine. And, as mentioned earlier, bring his favorite treats so you can reinforce good behavior while giving him exercise.

#4 - Try New Paths

The same route can become boring for your dog after awhile. Introduce him to new paths occasionally. Even though you won’t notice the difference, the fresh smells of a new route and its surroundings will be exciting to him. Plus, he’ll have plenty of new territory to mark.

Enjoying The Time Together

Owners often forget how much their dogs love their attention. Walking your canine is a great opportunity to strengthen the friendship you share with each other. Not only will you dog get the exercise he needs, he will enjoy being outdoors and spending time with you. With a proper leash, a little training, some doggie necessities, and a new route every now and then, you’ll both look forward to the short walks you take together.

Are Hunting Dogs Okay to Have With Kids?

Many people believe that hunting dogs should never be contained indoors or allowed to be around children. They think that because the dog has “tasted blood” on the hunt, it cannot be trusted not to hurt children. This line of thinking is simply not true. Hunting dogs make wonderful family pets because of their natural tendency to want praise and acceptance from their masters. They are also quite intelligent and follow commands easily. Most hunting dogs, especially retrievers, have “soft mouths”, which means that they don’t bite down hard. This is definitely an advantage for young children who love to play with dogs.

America’s favorite dog is the Golden Retriever. Their unique traits make them wildly popular – they’re natural swimmers, are calm and gentle, are very intelligent, and are generally content. Plus, they’re just beautiful to look at. They’re also large enough that children can play and roughhouse with them and they never seem to run out of energy or patience for this. These things also make them ideal service dogs. And yet, most people that own one don’t realize that all of these things were bred into them so that they would be great bird dogs. They’re so common that most people don’t even think of them as being hunting dogs.

Training your hunting dog to take to children is pretty simple. It’s important to remember that a hunting dog sees you (as the adult and trainer) as the top dog and therefore considers children who they are living with as part of the ‘litter’. As your children grow up, the hunting dog will follow your example. He will watch and see how you treat him as well as his ‘litter-mates’ and he’ll determine what the ‘pecking order’ is in the home.

Not only are most hunting dogs very docile, but they are usually very sturdy dogs. Because of this, they are more likely to stand up to the less than gentle playing that children are so prone to. Always monitor what is going on so that your children don’t hurt the dog, especially when he’s a puppy since they do not always understand their own boundaries. Knowing what your children and dog are doing when playing will help make your hunting breed a beloved family pet and keep both children and dog safe.

Training a hunting dog to be a pet isn’t much different than training any other dog. Setting up boundaries of what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior including table food, begging and other behaviors that should be discouraged from the time they are puppies. Even though your children may be amused when the puppy is begging for food or trying to get food off the table, you won’t be so amused when you have a full grown dog sitting begging during a large holiday meal with friend and family. Educating your children is as important as training your dog – perhaps even more so. While your dog is a member of your family, he is none the less a dog and shouldn’t be treated like another child. Dogs have to be trained to do things in a totally different manner than children and you should teach your child how you are training your dog. This will allow for consistency which is so important in training your dog.

Years from now when your child is an adult they will be able to tell you more about your dog than you can possibly remember, even if the dog passed many years before. This is because of the lifelong impression that a dog can leave on a child. Kids will remember long into adult-hood the little quirks and habits of their first dog and any dog they may have as a pet. Remember, your hunting dog may work side by side with you in the field, but make no mistake about it, he’s a lifelong friend, companion and will help you family create lasting memories.

To help you train your hunting dog you should make sure you have the proper supplies. If you are in need of a dog tracker unit, then the Tracker Maxima is a great choice. If you are looking for a dog training collar that has the ability to expand to a two dog model, then the Innotek IUT-302 is the unit for you.

The Benefits of Dried Dog Food

There are a great many types and brands of dried dog food on the market and it can be hard choosing the most suitable one. First we should discuss what dried food is and how it compares to other dog foods.

Dried dog food is simply dog food that has been baked or cooked into small, hard biscuits. Dried dog food can help keep gums and teeth in good condition as the crunching and chewing of the dried food acts like an abrasive against the teeth, removing plaque and stimulating the gums. It is also a good and complete source of nutirition. Complete dried dog food doesn’t tend to have the same smell as the canned, wet food. It is also easy enough to serve as you simply pour the required amount directly into the dog’s bowl, no mixing required.

Most leading dog food brands such as Science Plan Dog Food develop differnet ranges depending on whether the dog is a puppy, adult, senior, certain breed or has sensitive digestion. But which food is the best for your puppy or adult dog?

If your dog is still a puppy (or under 18 months) look at the various brands of puppy dog food. These are not usually breed specific because food developed for puppies tends to contain different levels and types of ingredients. Like human babies, ALL puppies need more of certain nutrients and less of others. Puppy food also tends to be split by the breed size such as small (Shih Tzu), medium (Border Collie) or large (Bull Mastiff). You should now be able to narrow down your choice by age and size of your puppies breed.

Choosing dog food for adult dogs may be easier because most of the dog food brands have ranges split by specific breed and size. If you decide to simply go off the size of your dogs breed, all that is left is narrowing down the manufacturer and maybe the flavour of dog food such as chicken, beef or rabbit (which does tend to be the dogs preference which is where samples come in handy!). Or opt for ranges specifically developed for breeds such as rottweiler dog food.

Other things to consider when choosing a dog food includes your own personal preference. Brands such as Skinners are animal friendly i.e. animals were not used during the development of the product in what some animal rights organisations consider to be cruel conditions. Price is also an important factor; it is far better for your puppy or adult dog to be fed the same brand and not to switch too often because it can cause an upset stomach or your dog to go on ‘hunger strike’. So make sure you look at what you will have to spend on a regular basis and if you will be able to keep that up.

Handy hint: Many households have more than one dog so why not try to get them all on the same brand.

Teach Your Dog

Does your dog still have difficult issues like barking at complete strangers, jumping, or or going to the bathroom in the house? Well, maybe it is time for you to try a new approach with a new type of punishment or consequence. Dogs only learn from their mistakes if they are told no during the bad event. Trainers who specialize in dog obedience training can help guide you and your best friend, learn how to accomplish the task. dog sitting is also very important at this stage because everyone in the home needs to agree on the training, to get the proper results. pet care is a very special job, but it can be very hard, so use your resources!

Dog obedience training involves your dog, a specialized trainer, and a lot of useful tricks of the trade that you may not have available to you. Dog training is a long process but if it is repeated and practiced in and out of home, wonderful results can come out of it. Finally your dog may bay be able to stop jumping on the couch, or maybe he will now stop chewing on that chair. Training your dog may be the best thing that you can do and what you can do for your whole family.

When you go outside, just like a child, dogs think that the rules are somehow lifted from the premises and they no longer apply to them. A helpful tool for that would be to hire a dog sitter, one who really knows you and your dog and one who can show you how to handle your dog even in the worst situations. Your dog sitter should be able to get your dog to listen and respond to commands just as well as you can, just to make all of your lives so much more fun.

Pet care is an extremely difficult enterprise and it can take up a lot of time during your day as well as a lot of difficult training on your behalf. Dogs are a lot like children, so handling a new puppy and all of its baggage can be a hard task to handle if you are not ready. Again, just like children they will destroy things, make messes tear up the house, and ultimately enrage you but ultimately in the end, they are an extremely fun little friend to have in your home. Puppies, although they are fun to play with, they require a lot of attention. This means that it is necessary for you to bath them and take them out and feed them and play with them constantly.

Owning abehaving dog is a rewarding asset to show off tothe world, because a dog that listens to its master is not only a smart dog but one that can learn to do more and more each day. Puppies and grown dogs are a lot of fun, but they are also a lot of work, so if you do not think that you can handle all of the strenuous work yourself, then you may want to look into a dog trainer or a sitter or someone who can just play with your dog and take care of them the way that you would take care of them.
